Today there are 1.3 million men and women in the National Guard and Reserve. Many are serving in overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Significantly, over 750,000 have answered the highest calling of citizenship to be called to active duty since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
These patriotic men and women deserve our support, admiration, and respect. By volunteering to serve, they once again have placed the needs of their communities and nation above their own. We truly believe that they are heroes in every sense of the word.
On March 2, 2011, we had the honor to sign a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve in Washington, DC. This symbolic demonstration of support for service in the National Guard and Reserve commits ASHHRA to:
* Fully recognize, honor, and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act;
* Ensure that our managers and supervisors have the tools needed to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve;
* Continually recognize and support those who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
We challenge ASHHRA members across the United States to join us by signing a Statement of Support, and to display it proudly in your facility.
We also encourage you to appreciate the values, leadership, and unique skills our citizen warriors bring to the workforce, and to pursue opportunities to hire guardsmen, reservists, and veterans.
ESGR will provide you the opportunity to demonstrate support for your employees who serve voluntarily in the National Guard and Reserve by signing a statement of support. By signing this symbolic statement of support and posting the proclamation you are affirming your support for the brave men and women of the healthcare industry who serve in this capacity.
To request a Statement of Support for your health care facility, please call Tom Bullock, ESGR Chief of Employer Outreach, at 703‐696‐1386 or via email [email protected] Tom will be happy to schedule an ESGR volunteer to meet with you to plan your signing ceremony.
